Temperature and Light Levels

Never over 100 F or below 55 F, and no direct sunlight! Besides that, these plants are easy.

Phalaenopsis are tolerant of a pretty wide range of temperatures and light levels.
Orchids cannot generally tolerate full sun or temperatures below 55 F. They also don't like temperatures above 100 F. The ideal light range is between 500 and 1500 foot candles, however, this will be difficult to measure without a good light meter. If you become an orchid collector, we highly suggest investing in a decent light meter (around $50) because different orchids thrive in different light levels. As a rule of thumb for growing Phalaenopsis, any place in your home or porch with indirect sunlight will be okay. They are also tolerant of a large range of temperatures, but in order to make your plant spike year after year you will need to understand what makes them spike and bloom. This is dependent on both light and temperature.
